At Nova SBE, we believe that the world is a place full of opportunities for those who seek knowledge and excellence. For international students with big dreams and ambitions, we open the doors to an extraordinary learning journey.

The international student status covers students who:

  • Do not have Portuguese nationality, except for:

- Nationals of a Member State of the European Union
- Family members of Portuguese citizens or nationals of a Member State of the European Union, regardless of their nationality
- Those who, not being nationals of a Member State of the European Union, have legally resided in Portugal for more than two uninterrupted years on January 1 of the year they intend to enter higher education, as well as their children residing with them, with the time of residence for study purposes not being relevant for this purpose
- Those who, on January 1 of the year they intend to enter higher education, benefit from equal rights and duties status granted under an international treaty between the Portuguese State and the State of which they are nationals
- Those who apply for admission to higher education through special regimes.

Candidates that meet the following admission criteria can apply directly to Nova SBE for Management, Economics or Ocean Studies. If you do not meet those criteria you must apply for Management, Economics or Ocean Studies, via SUPERNOVA Foundation Programme:

  • Hold a High School diploma and/or School examination certificate (if already held, or upon receipt) and academic transcripts from the last 3 years that attest.*,
  • Language requirements - English language test scores (if English is not the mother tongue):

- IELTS 6
- TOEFL iBT 80
- CFE minimum 170 or grade C (minimum 170),
- CAE Advanced (any grade),
- CPE with any pass grade,
- High school education fully taught in English,
- Mother tongue declaration /bi-lingual.

Note: Requirements marked as recommended are strongly advised but not mandatory. Mathematics requirements listed refer to the subject taken at the appropriate level within the qualification system. "To be confirmed" entries will be updated as requirements are finalised.

ONLINE APPLICATION directly to Nova SBE 

Applications must be submitted using the form that will be available during the application period, along with the required listed documentation. 

The Nova SBE team will review the application and communicate the outcome within a maximum of eight weeks. 

Nova SBE Bachelor’s Admissions Committee may require an interview as a complementary requirement. 

All documents that are not originally in Portuguese or English must be translated by a certified translator/agency.

  • High School diploma (or a legally equivalent document). Students who are still in the process of completing high school at the time of application should submit a declaration from the school certifying that. For those who did not finish high school by the acceptance date, the diploma must be delivered before the deadline for payment of the second installment of the tuition fee*
  • Academic transcript from the last 3 years with all courses taken and respective grades. If the applicant has not yet completed high school at the time of application, they should submit the academic transcript with all courses taken and respective grades up to that point,
  • Curriculum Vitae (in English),
  • Photo,
  • Motivation Letter
  • Proof of English:

- One of the accepted exams (stated above),
- Mother or bi-lingual declaration form,
- High school declaration stated that it was fully taught in English.

  • Certified copy of the front and back of the identification document (ID card, Citizen Card, or Passport), with the consent of the holder, for data validation,
  • Declaration of Honor- Eligibility access
  • Payment of the application fee.

* Students who are still in the process of completing high school at the time of application, in case of acceptance will receive conditional admission, subject to verification of their completion certificate proving that their final grades meet the criteria.

SUPERNOVA


Candidates that do not meet previous criteria must apply via SUPERNOVA Foundation Programme:

The SUPERNOVA Foundation Programme will help students in the process of adapting to the European teaching system. It aims to level up the candidate's technical knowledge and provide the required language competencies (when needed) to students who wish to apply, in the future, to a bachelor's degree or integrated master's in one of NOVA's schools. This multidisciplinary program offers students the opportunity to choose three courses offered by NOVA's schools, attend the Ideas Club and Portuguese and English classes, thus developing language competences to pursue the intended studies for a University degree at NOVA.

Candidates to the SUPERNOVA Foundation Programme must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Hold a High School diploma or a document that attests to the completion of High School, including a transcript of records with a full list of courses and corresponding grades.
  • Have a minimum of B2 fluency in at least one of the following languages: Portuguese or English (depending on the language of the Bachelor’s degree you want upon completion of the program).

ONLINE APPLICATION

An International Student (non-EU) who wishes to apply for a Bachelor’s degree at Nova SBE will have to present their application by filling in the SUPERNOVA Foundation Programme application form and attaching the needed documents.

After submitting the online application, the candidate will receive an email from NOVA University Lisbon's International Development Office acknowledging that the documents were received and a pre-screening will be conducted, resulting in the following outcomes:

Conditional acceptance, for Management or Economics, on doing and succeeding the SUPERNOVA Foundation Programme, fulfilling Nova SBE’s criteria: 

  • Candidates that qualify for the program path will have to achieve Nova SBE’s minimum cumulative criteria to enroll;
  • Pass the Advanced Mathematics course – 13 points (out of 20);
  • Pass the course offered by Nova SBE (Principles of Microeconomic) – 10 points (out of 20);
  • Pass the English course – Mandatory English proficiency, except for those who prove a B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR);
  • Have a minimum class attendance rate of 80 %.
     

Conditional acceptance, for Ocean Studies, on doing and succeeding the SUPERNOVA Foundation Programme, fulfilling Nova SBE’s criteria: 

  • Candidates that qualify for the program path will have to achieve Nova SBE’s minimum cumulative criteria to enroll;
  • Pass the Advanced Mathematics or Biology course – 10 points (out of 20);
  • English requirement (B2) in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or successful completion of English classes (B1.2);
  • Have a minimum class attendance rate of 80 %.


A deferred decision for a possible direct entrance at Nova SBE:

  • Applications of candidates that qualify for direct entrance will be shared with the Nova SBE Bachelor’s Admissions Committee, who will make the final decision for this path after evaluation.


Unsuccessful (not entering Nova SBE):

  • This result will be based on the evaluation conducted by the SUPERNOVA Foundation Programme Team, who will communicate the final decisions to all applicants. Students may attend the program but will not be joining Nova SBE after it.
  • A motivation letter stating why the candidate is interested in completing the program and/or what is the reason for wanting to take a Bachelor’s degree after the successful completion of the SUPERNOVA Foundation Programme;
  • A recommendation letter (optional)
  • A document attesting the completion of high school. In case of not having finished high school at the time of application, the candidate must submit an official declaration from the school attesting when the candidate will be finishing high school
  • A transcript of records with a full list of courses and corresponding grades. In case of not having finished high school at the time of application, the candidate must submit the transcript of records (with all the courses and respective grades) completed at that time*:
  • Traced copy of the front and back of the identification document (ID, Citizen's Card, or Passport), with due consent of the holder, for data validation
  • A document certifying your language level for English and/or Portuguese
  • A document demonstrating that the payment of the application fee was made. After submitting the online application, the candidate will receive an email from the International Relations Office acknowledging that the documents were received and providing instructions for enrollment fee payment
​*Students who are still finishing high school by the time they apply must submit the Diploma that proves they finished high school (or a legally equivalent document) until the end of the first month of classes of the SUPERNOVA Foundation Programme.

The applications to the SUPERNOVA Foundation Programme are open in the following periods:

  • From July to October: for candidates willing to attend the semester from February to June (Spring intake);
  • From January to April: for candidates willing to attend the semester from September to January (Fall intake).
